Which Windows Operating Systems suits my application?
After Windows 10 comes Windows 11 - also in the industrial environment. Here, many applications are designed for long runtimes and with them the availability and technical support of the operating systems. Also desirable are even better system stability, a wide range of options for customising the operating system to the respective control or monitoring tasks, as few changes as possible to the original configuration through unchecked, automated updates and no unauthorised read or write access.
Microsoft has further developed the familiar Windows Professional operating systems for precisely these operating conditions and has been offering them specifically for industrial use under the name Windows IoT Enterprise LTSC for some time now. The 'IoT' stands for the industry-related areas of application, the 'Enterprise' for the extended range of functions and the 'LTSC' (Long Term Servicing Channel) for the long availability of 10 years. Naturally, these versions use the same drivers and are therefore fully compatible with the Professional versions. Only the licensing procedure is different.
